News from our teams

Our first team stays in Nelonen

The first season in Miesten Nelonen has been one of many ups and downs for the team. The challenges the differences between Miesten Vitonen and Nelonen posed have certainly been visible on the pitch as well as in the results of the earlier matches. However, the team stuck together, never gave up and showed a sheer willingness and fight. This continuous effort and work showed itself in the results, that looked much more promising than the beginning of the season. However, in a dramatic finale, all of this effort seemed to have been in vail, as on the last matchday the team dramatically got knocked out of the league due to goal difference. And just as everyone got mentally prepared for playing in Miesten Vitonen once again, Santa Claus has given out early Christmas presents in the form of a free spot in Miesten Nelonen. SPL has informed us in the beginning of December that there would be a spot in Miesten Nelonen for us, which we accepted. So despite the initial shock of how the season ended, we get another chance of redeeming ourselves in Miesten Nelonen.

Winter training has begun

All of our teams have switched to winter training times. Our first team and Academy team train on Fridays outdoor on the KäPa Campus in Vallila while our 7er team keep themselves fit in Töölön Kupla also on Fridays. On top of that Sebastian has set up a winter individual training reporting tool where our players can report any form of exercise and compare their efforts to those of other members in a rank. These efforts of training as a team together as well as individually are important factors in staying in shape and building the fitness.

We’re looking for a coach to train our kids team

For winter training, we have found a great, well-equipped hall for the kids in which we have plenty of space for our training. We use the otherwise unfamiliar hard floor to occasionally play handball as a warm-up for a bit of variety. We now have girls and boys born between 2015 and 2018 in our group, who are divided into two age groups. If you have or know children of this age and would like to come along, please drop by! Every Saturday 10-11 in the sports hall of Metropolia Myllypuro. Last weekend we had our pikkujoulu after the last training of the year with lots of glögi, mokkapala and biscuits. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to our head coach Felix, who has brought us up to speed for many years. We are still looking for a replacement for Felix! So if you would like to spend some Saturdays training with some great kids and adults, please get in touch with Manuel (manuel@fcgermania.fi).

Christmas party

On Sat 25/11/2023 we had our annual Christmas party. This year we celebrated in the district of Vallila over the roofs of Konepaja. The venue had besides a sauna amongst others an own karaoke studio and on the roof terrace from the jacuzzi we kept an eye on the night sky for northern lights, which were predicted for that evening, too. The cold cut was delivered by our favourite supplier from Crinitz, Germany. Lidl Suomi chip in with glögi and piparkakku etc to our Christmas buffet. We say thank you for the kind support!

Outlook 2024

The season 2024 will be a challenging one from many angles but also a very exciting one, especially from a sports perspective. The second year in Nelonen for our first team will be a challenging one and requires full focus and the full support from everyone involved. In order to be properly prepared for the season, the team will actively start with the season preparation in February.

Some of the goals for the upcoming season presented at the annual meeting also include a reworked brand and website, which will soon be worked on and presented. On top of that there will be dedicated social media channel following the first team to present the players, show a bit more behind the scenes and follow their journey in Nelonen. We hope that we can show more games again live on our youtube channel as well again, something that has been becoming a bit of a challenge last season.

There are a number of events planned for the next season including a season opener dinner for our 11er teams in January, our annual summer party and family day, open for all members as well as a number of other events. The dates and details of all events will be presented soon.

We hope to be able to provide our members with a community where they can thrive and improve as players and individuals on and off the pitch. That requires active support from all members as well as the support from our partners and sponsors. We are extremely grateful for the continuous support from our sponsors, especially Bruhn and Hetzner who has supported us since the very beginning and are continueing to support us financially also for the upcoming season. We would also like to thank our partners and supporting members for their support.

We wish all of you a Merry Christmas, a happy new year, a happy holiday as well as a successful year 2024.

See you on the pitch or off the pitch,

The board
