FC Germania Helsinki vs FC St. Pauli on Fr 15.05.2026

FC Germania Helsinki will be playing a friendly match against FC St. Pauli on Friday, 15.05.2026 at 19:30 on KäPa Campus 1! The match is organized together with the official FC St. Pauli Finland fan club and there will be a “Dritte Halbzeit” including barbecue & drinks following the game. It will be a fun match that is open for players from all teams (First team, Akademie team, and Harraste team – Spots are limited) vs the Ü40 of St. Pauli – so no, it won’t be against their first team, that’s currently in the Bundesliga, but close enough 🙂

We would like to invite all of you to join us on KäPa Campus 1 to watch that spectacle and join us for some food and drinks after the match

Our M5 team qualified for the Roots Cup 2026 – Quarter final match on Sat. 04.07.2026 vs KyPa (Kotka)

Despite the season only being a few months old, our M5 team already wrote history, by qualifying for the Roots Cup 2026. The Roots Cup is a cup organized for the top 8 amateur teams from Finland based on their performance in the Suomen Cup. The quarter final will be played between FC Germania Helsinki and KyPa (M5) from Kotka in Lauttasaari TN on Saturday, 04.07.2026 at 12:00. If the team manages to win that game, they will advance to the semi final, which will be played in August against the winner of the QF match between Kaskö IK (M5) and LappBK (M5). The final will be held in the Tammela stadium in Tampere and will be shown live on Ruuttu. This massive achievement comes as a result of the team’s great performances and results during this year’s Miesten Suomen Cup, where they managed to reach the third round. Unfortunately, that’s also where the journey ended after a 2:4 loss against Jokerit FC (M4)

    Other news from our teams

Just like last year, we organized a pre-season training camp in Eerikkilä Sport & Outdoor Resort, open for all members of the club from 24th to 25th April. The 16 participants who joined the camp were able to properly prepare themselves for the season during the two training sessions on Saturday and a voluntary fitness session on Sunday morning led by the coaches of our M5 team, Felix Fabian and Joonas Kananen. But the camp wasn’t just sports; it included a sauna evening and a Saturday evening hangout session in one of the two cabins, aka “Mökkis”, reserved for the teams. Thanks to Eerikkilä Sport & Outdoor Resort for the immaculate pitches, training conditions, and the food! Thanks also to LassoDrinks for sponsoring the refreshments during the training camp!

All our teams have now also switched to summer training, where the 11er teams will train on Thursdays and Sundays on the KäPa Campus with an additional training session on Tuesdays in Munkkiniemi. The 7er team is training on Fridays on the KäPa Campus. At the same time, the competitive season has also started for our teams. Our M5 team continues to compete in Miesten Vitonen (M5), while our Akademie team is competing in Miesten Kutonen (M6). Our Harraste team is playing in a division higher this season, and the level difference became evident right from the first match. At the Hantta Cup, our 7er team finished third in their group. Membership numbers for our teams remain very stable. The few departures over the winter have been offset by a couple of new signings.

    News from our kids team

The FCGH Kids group successfully concluded the indoor season and is now looking forward to outdoor training. During the winter season, the 2016-Team finished sixth in the hobby category of the winter league after an exciting match for fifth place, including a penalty shootout. In the summer season, we are participating in two weekend tournaments. The younger children (ages 5–7) are enthusiastically joining in the training and bravely tackling practice games.

We are always happy to welcome new players! During the summer months, we usually train on Saturdays from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the KäPa Campus. Interested parents of children born between 2015 and 2019 are welcome to contact Silvia (silvia@fcgermania.fi).

    Other news & upcoming events

We are happy to announce that the German school in Helsinki will be sponsoring us again this year, 2026, and will be the main sponsor of our kids’ teams. The German school in Helsinki has been an important partner for us as a club, but mainly for our kids’ teams. The kids’ team jerseys will proudly display the logo of the German school on their chests. We want to thank the German school in Helsinki for their support and the continuous partnership throughout the years!

On top of that, we want to thank Bruhn Spedition and Hetzner Online GmbH, who continue to support us financially and whose long-enduring sponsorship and partnership has made it possible to build such a club and community!

  • Christmas Newsletter 2025

    Dear Members, Partners, and Players,

As the year draws to a close, we reflect on an eventful and turbulent 2025. At the same time, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year 2026!

    Looking Back at the Year

    Updates from the Board
During our last annual general meeting on November 8, 2024, a new board was elected for the forthcoming year and presented the overall goals for the club and the individual teams. There are no changes to the board and the board for the year 2026 is composed of:

    • Lennart Schmitz (Chairman)
    • Konsta Oikonomides (Vice Chairman)
    • Oliver Boldt (Treasurer)
    • Manuel Paul (Membership Administration & Technical Coordinator)
    • Silvia Forin (Head of Youth & Kids)

We want to use this opportunity to thank our members for their trust and support! Additionally, a special thanks goes to our partners and sponsors – especially Bruhn Spedition and Hetzner Online GmbH – our long standing partners and sponsors and who make all this possible.

We celebrated our 10 year anniversary

2025 was a special year for FC Germania Helsinki, as exactly 10 years ago, this club was founded and we celebrated this special milestone together with all our members, partners, friends and families on a beautiful summer day on the 14th of June, 2025. We want to thank everyone who came by and helped make not just the day but more importantly the club into what it is today – a thriving, international community of friends.

That we’re able to celebrate 10 years of football, friendship and community is thanks to a small group of German expats who had the idea and initiative during one evening of watching football together to form a football team. In the beginning, FC Germania Helsinki wasnt much more than a small group of friends that played 7vs7 in the hobby division in Finland, but soon after gained the attraction of not just Germans but also other international and Finnish players, which led to the clubs growth. Today FC Germania Helsinki counts more than 150 active members, 10 supporting members and countless friends from more than 25 different nationalities, making it far more than a small German club.

The board wants to say a special thanks to our longest standing members, who have been part of the small group of friends who founded this club Michael Lautner, Kai Santjer, Hannes Förster, Michael Lutzeier, Konsta Oikonomides, Oliver Boldt and Tim Becker. We also want to thank our sponsor Bruhn Spedition, who made the celebration possible with a generous donation.

    News from Our Teams

Our first team is looking back at a successful year in Miesten Vitonen, despite only narrowly missing out on securing a promotion spot back to Miesten Nelonen. The team that underwent a big change in the squad by incorporating younger players as well as new players, went on to score a total of 64 goals and winning 11 out of their 18 matches, securing the third spot in the league. All this was only possible to our newly constructed coaching team consisting of Martin Pfaffenzeller and Guillaume Jeannerot, who directed the team from the sideline for much of the season, until August 2025, when both decided to leave Finland and move on. We want to thank both of them for their work and efforts and want to wish them all the best in their future endeavors! Both will be missed as players, coaches, but more importantly as people. We’re happy to announce though, that we have found a capable new coaching staff for the upcoming season, Joonas Kananen, Félix Fabian and Theo Af Enehielm. All of them will also continue to be playing, while coaching as player-coaches, something they have shown to be more than capable at delivering during the last few matches of the season.

Meanwhile our Academy team has continued their development under the leadership of Nick Leeson and Nikita Ishchenko and played their best season so far, scoring a total of 29 goals and collecting 25 points out of 16 matches, which secured them a well-deserved 4th spot in the table. The team has shown great morale and spirit to secure some great points and matches, most notably a 2:2 against Mando United with players like ex-national team players Perparim Hetemaj and his brother Mehmet Hetemaj who played over 300 matches in Serie A and over 50 matches for the national team.

During the winter season, we have also started with weekly Futsal training sessions in Hakaniemi, open to all our players from 11er and 7er team, something well appreciated by the players.

    News from Our Kids Teams

Our FCGH Kids program now includes 30 boys and girls aged 5-11 that train and play football together regularly. During the summer months they train on Saturday mornings in Käpylä. During the winter season they train indoors in Myllypuro. The trainings are held in two separate groups according to age.

The FCGH kids participate in hobby league tournaments like the winter league this season, which they are doing with great success. They also took part in the popular Pingviini Cup in the summer. The Christmas highlight was a visit from three football elves, who sweetened the Christmas party with cookies and games.

Training and games wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated volunteer coaches whom we would like to express our gratitude to! We look forward to playing and training together in 2026 and welcoming new children to our group! If you have any children born between 2015 and 2019, please feel free to contact Silvia (siliva@fcgermania.fi)

    Looking Ahead to 2026

    Your Board,
Lennart, Konsta, Oli, Manu, and Silvia

  • FC Germania Helsinki celebrates 10 years anniversary

FC Germania Helsinki celebrates 10 years anniversary

Dear Members, Partners, Players, and Friends of FC Germania Helsinki,

The year 2025 is a very special one for our club, as FC Germania Helsinki was officially founded exactly 10 years ago, meaning we can announce with pleasure that we are celebrating our 10-year anniversary. 10 years is an incredible milestone that we could only reach thanks to your support, for which we can only thank you! In particular, however, we would like to thank our sponsors, especially Bruhn Spedition and Hetzner Online GmbH, who have supported us for many years and have made it possible for us to build and maintain such a club and such a community! We would also like to thank Nordex Group, who are supporting us this year as an additional sponsor!

    Anniversary Celebration

As a thank you for your many years of support, we cordially invite you to our anniversary celebration and family day to celebrate this special occasion together with us! Anyone familiar with our family celebration knows that it is our main event of the year, where we celebrate in a lively atmosphere and in large numbers. This year, the celebration will be bigger than ever! We therefore invite you to celebrate with us on June 14th, 2025. There will be food, drinks, and lots of games and fun for young and old!

Start of the Season and New Coaches for Our 11-a-side Teams

The football season has also begun for our 11-a-side teams as well as our 7-a-side teams for a few weeks now. Especially with our 11-a-side teams, some changes have taken place during the winter break; the teams have been expanded to be prepared for potential injuries, but also to have greater depth in both squads. The goal for both teams this year is therefore clear: to be at the top of the table!

After unfortunately having to say goodbye to Lukas Fliri, who coached our first team for a long time, we have now found a very good solution for our first team. We are therefore very pleased to introduce Martin Pfaffenzeller and Guillaume Jeannerot as the new coaches of the first team. Both have been an integral part of the team and the club for some time. And while they have previously primarily supported the team on the field, this year they will primarily lead and guide the team from the sidelines.

“We want to thank the club and the management team for its trust in us. After the bitter relegation last season we want to restructure the team and rejuvenate it. We want to give more young players from the Academy team the opportunity to play and establish themselves in the first team. We want to play successful and ball-dominant football and we believe we have a good mix of players together to be successful this season! The preseason and the first games have demonstrated the potential, but they have also highlighted areas we need to develop.”

    Martin Pfaffenzeller & Guillaume Jeannerot

Some changes have also taken place in our academy team. Matthias Hugl, who led our second team to its most successful season last year, has become a proud father and therefore unfortunately can no longer support and coach the team to the same extent as before. At this point, we would like to congratulate him on the new arrival and wish the new family all the best! However, our second team will not go into the season without a coach, as we are also pleased to introduce two very good coaches here: Nick Leeson and Nikita Ishchenko.

“First and foremost I want to take this opportunity to thank the leadership for the faith they have put in me and Nikita to lead the Akadamie team for this up-coming season. It’s our job to build on all the great work and foundations that were put in place last season to get the best out of the team. We have a huge amount of talent across this club, and I am very optimistic about what’s ahead for FC Germania this upcoming season. The atmosphere around the club is very positive at the moment and I do feel there is a real sense of unity and ambition within both squads. I’m trying to not look too far ahead or wanting to make bold declarations, but the target for the Akademie this season is to be challenging at the right end of the table.”

    Nick Leeson

“First of all I’d like to congratulate everyone as we begin the 2025 season. It’s a proud moment to see how far we’ve come and even more exciting to look ahead and see what’s possible this year. Competing in Miesten Kutonen won’t be an easy task, but I believe in our strength, unity, and talent. We have what it takes to fight for the top of the table”

    Nikita Ishchenko

This year also saw the first proper training camp for both teams, which took place from April 26th to 27th in Eerikkilä. Under the best conditions and with excellent facilities, the 16 players were able to prepare well with two training sessions and a subsequent sauna. The two “Mökkis” (cottages) where we were accommodated almost made the weekend feel like a vacation. Many thanks to Konsta Oikonomides for the organization, and to Eerikkilä Sport & Outdoor Resort for the accommodation.

    News from the 7-a-side Team

Our 7-a-side team has started its summer training again on Friday evenings in Kumpulanlaakso. We were able to shape the transition from the winter season to the summer season with two highlights. At the end of April, we finished third in our group at the Hantta-Cup, and at the beginning of May, we won our opening game in the Hobby League with a resounding 7-0 victory. The long training sessions in our hall in Töölö during the winter have therefore paid off directly. We are looking forward to another great football summer.

    News from Our Kids

The FCGH Kids group now consists of around 30 boys and girls aged 5 to 10. During the summer months, we train on Saturdays from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM in Käpylä or on Sundays from 12 PM to 1 PM in Arabianranta, divided into two groups according to age.

The highlight of the completed winter season was the successful participation in the Winter League (hobby level), which took place over several weekends between November and March. This allowed children born between 2014 and 2016 to gain playing experience and discover the fun of teamwork. In this summer season, we are planning two weekend tournaments where even the younger children will have the opportunity to try themselves out on the field.

We look forward to outdoor training in the coming months as well as new teammates. Parents of football-enthusiastic children born between 2015 and 2019 are welcome to contact Silvia (silvia@fcgermania.fi) if interested.

    Further Events

    • On Thu 29/05/2025 (Ascension Day/German Father’s Day), our traditional city walk through Helsinki will take place, ending with a barbecue. This event is open to all adult members; incidentally, it is not a condition of participation to be a father yourself.
    • Possible Public Viewing (PV) Nations League 04-08/06/2025 (no entry on MyClub)
    • On Sat 09/08/2025, the FCGH’s Beach Bash will take place at Playa del Hietsu. At this event, you can spend a great time at the beach with all the other adult members from the various teams, play games, and enjoy refreshments.

    Sincerely,

    The FC Germania Helsinki Management

  • News December 2024

    Dear Members, Partners, and Players,

As the year draws to a close, we reflect on an eventful and turbulent 2024. At the same time, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year 2025!

    Looking Back at the Year

    Updates from the Board
During our last annual general meeting on November 9, 2024, a new board was elected along with goals for the year 2025. We are happy to welcome Silvia Forin as a new member of the board. She will oversee our Kids Teams, taking over from Manuel Paul, who will now focus on membership administration and technical support.

The 2025 Board is composed of:

    • Lennart Schmitz (Chairman)
    • Konsta Oikonomides (Vice Chairman)
    • Oliver Boldt (Treasurer)
    • Manuel Paul (Membership Administration & Technical Coordinator)
    • Silvia Forin (Head of Youth & Kids)

We want to use this opportunity to thank our members for their trust and support! Additionally, a special thanks goes to our partners and sponsors – especially Bruhn Spedition, Hetzner Online GmbH, and Nordex Group – whose contributions make much of what we do possible.

    News from Our 11-a-side Teams

Unfortunately, our second year in the Miesten Nelonen did not go as we had hoped, resulting in our first team being relegated to the Miesten Vitonen after two challenging, but insightful seasons. Despite good preparation, new players, and promising performances throughout the season, we often struggled to secure results. Nonetheless, the team never lost faith and remained united, something we’re very happy to see. A big thank you for that! We especially thank Lukas Fliri, who led the team as coach and player over the past two years. Lukas is leaving the club after three years, and his dedication, work ethic, and character will be deeply missed. We wish him all the best for his future endeavors.

Our second team, the Academie, had its best season yet in the Miesten Kutonen under the guidance of Matthias Hugl. Despite early challenges, the team finished in a strong 7th place, showing dominance and winning games as they came together as a team. At this point, also a big thank you to Matthias, whose efforts and contributions on and off the field made this possible!

    News from Our 7-a-side Team

Training in Kumpulanlaakso this past summer was not only well-attended but a lot of fun. On the pitch, we kicked off the season with a highlight: 2nd place in the Good Friday Tournament hosted by GriFK in Kauniainen. We also secured a 4th place finish in the Hobby League, narrowly missing out on the knockout round. Since November, we’ve been training in our indoor kuplahalli in Töölö. Additionally, players from across all teams have come together for Futsal matches during the dark winter months. We plan to start the new season with another appearance at GriFK’s Good Friday Tournament, before the Hobby League finally begins at the end of May.

    News from Our Kids Teams

Our FCGH Kids program now includes 27 boys and girls aged 5 to 10 who enjoy playing football together. They train every Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, outdoors in Käpylä during the summer and indoors in Myllypuro during the winter. This year, the hall is available until 12 PM, giving children extra time to play or even challenge their parents to a match! The kids also participated in Hobby League tournaments. This season, they are competing in the Winter League and had a great summer with events like the popular Pingviini Cup, where ice cream rewards the players’ efforts. Last week, they were treated to a visit from the Football Santa at our Christmas party!

A huge thank you to our coaches Manuel, Pasi, Wolfgang, Thomas, Tamerlane, and Jonas for making these experiences possible. Parents interested in signing up football-loving kids born between 2015 and 2019 can contact Silvia at silvia@fcgermania.fi.

    Looking Ahead to 2025

    News from our teams

Our first team stays in Nelonen

The first season in Miesten Nelonen has been one of many ups and downs for the team. The challenges the differences between Miesten Vitonen and Nelonen posed have certainly been visible on the pitch as well as in the results of the earlier matches. However, the team stuck together, never gave up and showed a sheer willingness and fight. This continuous effort and work showed itself in the results, that looked much more promising than the beginning of the season. However, in a dramatic finale, all of this effort seemed to have been in vail, as on the last matchday the team dramatically got knocked out of the league due to goal difference. And just as everyone got mentally prepared for playing in Miesten Vitonen once again, Santa Claus has given out early Christmas presents in the form of a free spot in Miesten Nelonen. SPL has informed us in the beginning of December that there would be a spot in Miesten Nelonen for us, which we accepted. So despite the initial shock of how the season ended, we get another chance of redeeming ourselves in Miesten Nelonen.

    Winter training has begun

All of our teams have switched to winter training times. Our first team and Academy team train on Fridays outdoor on the KäPa Campus in Vallila while our 7er team keep themselves fit in Töölön Kupla also on Fridays. On top of that Sebastian has set up a winter individual training reporting tool where our players can report any form of exercise and compare their efforts to those of other members in a rank. These efforts of training as a team together as well as individually are important factors in staying in shape and building the fitness.

We’re looking for a coach to train our kids team

For winter training, we have found a great, well-equipped hall for the kids in which we have plenty of space for our training. We use the otherwise unfamiliar hard floor to occasionally play handball as a warm-up for a bit of variety. We now have girls and boys born between 2015 and 2018 in our group, who are divided into two age groups. If you have or know children of this age and would like to come along, please drop by! Every Saturday 10-11 in the sports hall of Metropolia Myllypuro. Last weekend we had our pikkujoulu after the last training of the year with lots of glögi, mokkapala and biscuits. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to our head coach Felix, who has brought us up to speed for many years. We are still looking for a replacement for Felix! So if you would like to spend some Saturdays training with some great kids and adults, please get in touch with Manuel (manuel@fcgermania.fi).

    Christmas party

On Sat 25/11/2023 we had our annual Christmas party. This year we celebrated in the district of Vallila over the roofs of Konepaja. The venue had besides a sauna amongst others an own karaoke studio and on the roof terrace from the jacuzzi we kept an eye on the night sky for northern lights, which were predicted for that evening, too. The cold cut was delivered by our favourite supplier from Crinitz, Germany. Lidl Suomi chip in with glögi and piparkakku etc to our Christmas buffet. We say thank you for the kind support!

    Outlook 2024

The season 2024 will be a challenging one from many angles but also a very exciting one, especially from a sports perspective. The second year in Nelonen for our first team will be a challenging one and requires full focus and the full support from everyone involved. In order to be properly prepared for the season, the team will actively start with the season preparation in February.

Some of the goals for the upcoming season presented at the annual meeting also include a reworked brand and website, which will soon be worked on and presented. On top of that there will be dedicated social media channel following the first team to present the players, show a bit more behind the scenes and follow their journey in Nelonen. We hope that we can show more games again live on our youtube channel as well again, something that has been becoming a bit of a challenge last season.

There are a number of events planned for the next season including a season opener dinner for our 11er teams in January, our annual summer party and family day, open for all members as well as a number of other events. The dates and details of all events will be presented soon.

We hope to be able to provide our members with a community where they can thrive and improve as players and individuals on and off the pitch. That requires active support from all members as well as the support from our partners and sponsors. We are extremely grateful for the continuous support from our sponsors, especially Bruhn and Hetzner who has supported us since the very beginning and are continueing to support us financially also for the upcoming season. We would also like to thank our partners and supporting members for their support.

We wish all of you a Merry Christmas, a happy new year, a happy holiday as well as a successful year 2024.

See you on the pitch or off the pitch,

    The board

    TEAMNEWS JULY 2023

    FC Germania (11 vs 11)

The first half of our first season in Miesten Nelonen is completed and one can definitely say that the level of Miesten Nelonen is a clear step up to that of Miesten Vitonen. The first matches and results paint a clear picture of this difference as FC Germania has lost their first 5 matches. To many it already seemed as if this first season would become also the last one in this league. However, the team and their new headcoach Lukas never gave up hope and continued to fight and believe in themselves. And with a few additions to the squad during the season, the team has managed to get their first win against RiRa on Matchday 6. Looking back one can mark this moment as a turning point as it was the first victory of three in a row. And while the performances as well as the results have improved significantly towards the end of the season, there is still a long, but exciting way ahead in the upcoming second part of the season. Only the future will tell whether or not the chapter of Miesten Nelonen continues also in the next season or whether it is a short-lived one. But the focus and goal is clear for everyone involved – FC Germania is here to stay.

    FC Germania/Akademie (11 vs 11)

This season is already the third season for our Academy team in Finland’s seventh division, Miesten Kutonen. However, the first two seasons haven’t always been a success story, so it was important to show in this season that the team is indeed able to compete in this league. And the season started off in a very promising way with a few good performances and the first win on Matchday 2. However, things started to go a little downhill with some heavy losses. But the team didn’t lose hope and focused on getting the performance from the first matches back onto the pitch. And with a few additions to the team, they didn’t have to wait long for things to improve with 3 very good performances and two consecutive ties in the last matches. Now the team is enjoying a few weeks of summer break to get their mind clear and focus on continuing this upwards trend also in the second half of the season.

    FC Germania Hki 2015 (7 vs 7)

The first half of the summer season is already again almost behind us. Our Friday training sessions are held mostly during great weather and are, as expected, great fun for everyone. This year we are playing one division higher in the hobby league, which is reflected in the quality of our opponents. Nevertheless, we go into the summer break in the league in the upper half of the table. While the defense allowed as little as last year, the attack first had to get on track with scoring some goals against better opponents. Above all, the 6:2 victory in the last game against HC Pintahiki gives us hope that the spell has finally been broken.

    FCGH Kids

For our kids, the winter season has ended well and it is with great joy that we are finally training outside again.

To celebrate the great games and the successful participation in the winter league, as well as the whole team and the spring, we had a small picnic after training on a beautiful Saturday in May. Thanks to a great turnout of parents we had grilled sausages, salads, drinks, and just about everything. While all of us had a great few hours together, the focus was on the appreciation of the great development of our kids, who were allowed to take home a well-filled FC Germania candy bag.

Everyone really enjoys the outdoor training. Since Juhannus, however, we have only been “on the back burner” because of the holidays. Hopefully not too long, because we are really looking forward to the first big tournament of the autumn season – the Pingviini Cup. For the first time, we will be playing with two teams.

To all those who are still reading, a small request:
We are always happy to hear from boys and girls born between 2018 and 2015 who would like to play football with us. Advertise for us and send interested parties to the FC Germania website or to manuel@fcgermania.fi.

    Teamnews April 2023

    11 vs 11

The summer season is about to start for our first team, which will play its first match in the Miesten Nelonen on Thursday 20 April, which will also be the first match in this league in the club’s history. The Academy team will also play their first match on Sunday 23 April.

Both teams have had the opportunity to test themselves against opponents of a similar level in recent weeks in order to prepare well for the new season. Despite good performances by both teams in these test matches, the results were mostly sobering. The first team in particular was shown in these games that this higher league will be of a completely different caliber than in the Miesten Vitonen.

At the end of the winter season, both teams met again at a training camp followed by a sauna. This camp, as well as the last training sessions, showed once again how much the boys are on fire and are looking forward to starting the season in a fitting manner and competing with their opponents. So there will be a lot of excitement and fight this season.

    Upcoming league games:

    FC Germania – Nelonen

    FC Germania/Akademie – Kutonen

    7 vs 7

On Friday 14 April, the summer season officially started for the 7s team with the first training outside at KäPa. We had to leave our winter hall a little earlier than usual due to renovation work. Summer training will take place on Fridays from 7.30pm to 9pm, just like last year.

The first game of the hobby league is already scheduled. On Thursday 27.4. we will meet Valtion Polttoaine at 18.45 on our beloved pitch in Kallio. This year we are playing one division higher, so we have been promoted virtually because of our championship in our group last year. The team is ready to take on this new challenge with joyful anticipation.

On Sunday 16.4, we had a very successful dress rehearsal with a 5:3 victory against our now close friends from China. China will also start this year for the first time with a team in the hobby league, and even in the same division as us, but in a different group. Both teams would be equally happy to meet again in the playoffs in autumn.

    Upcoming league games:

FC Germania Hki 2015 – Harraste Vitonen

    Kids

Our children’s football team is successful in the winter league – next month it’s off to the outdoors!

Dear parents, coaches and friends of our children’s football team, we hope you are well and enjoying the slowly warming weather. We would like to give you an update on our team’s winter league successes and upcoming plans.

Firstly, we would like to share our excitement about the excellent performances of our little footballers in the Winter League. We are proud to say that our team won almost all of their games! Thank you to everyone (coaches, parents, children) who made this success possible. We train and play for the fun of football and the success for the great playing kids is a great reward.

The last game of the winter league season will be over by the time this newsletter reaches you. We are confident that our players will give their best in this game as well.

We are looking forward to training outside again from May. The fresh air and beautiful weather will certainly provide additional motivation.
Our team currently has players from the 2015 to 2018 age groups, and we are always on the lookout for new interested children to further expand and strengthen our team. Therefore, we welcome anyone who can advertise and make potential new players aware of our team. Every new player is a valuable addition to our team! Especially for the younger ones (2017 – 2018), we can then make good use of a couple of newcomers.

    Outlook 2023

Comparing to the previous year we are happy that the pandemic no longer places restrictions on our football practice and social interactions. On the other hand new challenges have arisen, such as the significant cost increase for training pitches due to the energy crisis.

On the positive side, our 1st team is going to compete for the first time in Finland’s fifth highest league “Miesten Nelonen” starting this April, after successful promotion in 2022. To this end, our Sporting Director Lennart has been working hard to further strengthen the squad.

Our other two adult teams will keep on playing in Kutonen (Akademie team) and Helsinki’s hobby league (7er). The FC Germania kids will keep on learning German and football in a playful way, they will also compete against their peers.

On the 1st of April we will receive a team of Långholmen football club from Stockholm for a friendly match in Helsinki. It seems that we have a lot in common with this team once founded by ex-pats as well.

Once again, we will also organise a number of social events to bring together our members, their families and our supporters. Key events include our FC Germania Family Day on June 10, the Season Ending Event on October 14 and our Annual Assembly on November 11.

We are very grateful that our three main sponsors Bruhn Spedition, Hetzner and Deutsche Schule Helsinki keep on supporting us in 2023 as well. In addition, we are looking for new sponsors and supporting members to help tackle our growing sporting challenges.

    Best wishes for 2023!

    News from our teams

First team with preparations for the first season in Nelonen
After the successful promotion to Nelonen of the first team and the enduring last season, both 11er teams have used the winter months to get together on the training pitch and prepare for next season. While our first team will start in the Suomen regions cup as well as Miesten Nelonen, for the first time of the clubs history, the Academy team will be set to start like last year in Miesten Kutonen. Both teams will have a tough season ahead, but especially for the first team the next season will be challenging, as Nelonen is significantly tougher to play in than Miesten Vitonen and comes with its own set of challenges. There’s still a lot of work ahead for the team and the coaches, to get the team to a point where they need to be in order to perform on their highest level. Until the season beginning in April, the team will also compete in the Talvisarja, a small competition consisting of 3 matches against equal strong opponents, all playing in Nelonen. These 3 matches will provide a great opportunity for the team to get to know the level of Nelonen but will also enable the new players to get to know their teammates on the pitch.

Mixing 11er and 7er players for joint winter league
We decided in early autumn to go for the winter league on the small field with players from all adult teams of 11ers and 7ers. There are now already 4 games behind us, and we can say that this approach has been a major success. The fun and passion during these games have been outstanding. Both the skill and age mix have resulted in excellent football at times, against very tough opponents, as it was expected in this league. Now, we have still 3 league games left to also turn the game result into a first victory for us. After couple of very tight games, it is only a question of time, when the luck shall be on our side … maybe already against Moseeksen Potku on February 4!

Also our kids active this winter
The winter season is going well for the kids so far.
We started well in the winter league with great results on the last match day and we have a lively participation of the kids in the matches.
The indoor training in the hall and auditorium of the German School and the sports hall in Metropolia Myllypuro is well attended again after the holidays.
At the moment we have six coaches and they have their work cut out for them as we are increasingly dividing the large group into ability and year groups to better suit each individual.
The team is gradually growing and we cover a wide range of footballing ability within the 2017 – 2015 year groups, with the emphasis on fun for all children.
We are delighted that parents support their children so well in their hobby and find their way to us at least once every week.
If you know of any families or children who would be interested in joining our team, please contact Manuel (manuel@fcgermania.fi) or Markku, Pasi, Michael Cz, Wolfgang or Felix.

We are looking for new sponsors and supporting members

Because of significant cost increase for training pitches due to the energy crisis and additional costs that occur due to the promotion of our first team into the fourth division, we are actively looking for firms and private persons that can support our club for the upcoming season.

    Call for sponsors

    Season review 2022

FC Germania Helsinki – Nelonen here we come!

During the 2022 Vitonen season, the first team successfully gained promotion to Nelonen. After three years of playing in Finland’s sixth tier, each time narrowly missing out, the boys were finally crowned champions.

Following a number of unfortunate developments from last season, the first team were in need of a number of new players to be able to compete and challenge for the Vitonen championship. A large majority of winter training was spent recruiting and trying out new players. With limited time to gather a full squad together and with the first big test upon them, FC Germania played in the Suomen Cup on March 13th against Kolmonen side, PuiU. The game, although tightly contested, resulted in a 0:2 loss and a first round exit for the boys. The result, whilst not a win, provided a great experience for a still forming squad and with that allowed the team more time to focus, find players and properly prepare for the league.

The team started their pre-season preparations well, with two high-scoring victories against Chicken Wings and FC FC. The team felt confident going into the 2022 season. By the end of Matchday three, FC Germania had three straight wins and were first in the table. Following a first loss of the season against FC PoHu on Matchday 4, the boys picked up a total of seven points out of twelve over the course of the next four matches. With one game to go before the summer break, the team headed into a top of the table clash against league leaders, HePu. The match was fiercely contested between both sides and despite a good performance from FC Germania, the match ended all square at 1:1, giving HePu the smallest advantage heading into the summer break.

Refreshed and with their eyes firmly set on that top spot began the second half of the season with a comfortable 2:0 win over HJK Yellow. With all eyes set on the next game against league leaders, HePu, FC Germania had the opportunity to go top of the league for the first time since May. The team didn’t need to be asked twice and put in a dominating performance and beat HePu 2:1, moving top of the league and two points ahead. This win started a truly dominating streak for the boys with three consecutive victories against top 5 opposition opening up a nine-point gap at the top of the table. With four matches remaining and only three points needed to secure the championship, promotion to Nelonen seemed to only be a matter of formality…

However, anyone that loves football knows that things can change in the blink of an eye. FC Germania suffered two agonising defeats to relegation battlers Colo Colo and Vesa Töölö which left their league lead hanging on by a thread. With injuries and suspensions piling up, the boys faced an FC Ellas side who were off the back of three straight wins and who had beat FC Germania 1:0 in the first half of the season. With a lot riding on this huge game, the team would have to dig deep and put in a big performance if they were to defeat FC Ellas. Inside three minutes, the boys were 2:0 up thanks to two quick-fire goals from Ion and Giorgi K. Another strike from Ion meant that FC Germania went in 3:0 at half-time. Following a controlled second half performance, the boys ran out 3:1 winners and with that, were crowned champions.

A huge moment for the club and the first time FC Germania had been promoted to Nelonen.

With a meaningless game remaining against relegation strugglers FC Kiffen, the boys ended the season with a disappointing loss after the opposition scored two late goals to save their Vitonen status. Although ending on a minor note, the first team were consistent when it mattered. Pulling off big results against league rivals which all but secured their promotion. The club can start preparing for season 2023 where Nelonen awaits.

FCGH/Akademie – many players but little points

While the first teams goal could be summarized as winning as many games as possible with the best squad available, the academy team has several tasks to balance. For once, as for any “second” team it should provide the possibility for players with potential to develop towards playing in the first team. On the other hand, some certain core of players as emerged that feel like the academy team is the right place for them to play with little ambition to reach for a place in the first team. While the goal of any football team should be to win as many games as possible, for the academy team this should not lead into a too competitive environment and enable players with different skill-levels to enjoy and have fun on the pitch.

Just juding by the numbers, last spot in the table with only two wins and nine points might be hardly called a successful year. However, looking at it differently, we can look back at a year full of learnings and development what can be seen as a success itself for a team with the purpose described above. More than 40 players got some playing time for FCGH/Akademie during the 16 games played this season. The constant iterations of players and lineups resulted maybe in lost points but at the same time it helped the first team with its ambitious goals and thus contributed to the promotion in an important way. What needs to be especially highlighted was the great mentality that the team demonstrated throughout the whole season and even after frustrating results and unncessary defeats.

FCGH 2015 – As the winner of the group into the playoffs

We can look back to another great summer season.
Our main event, i.e. trainings on Fridays, was attended in average by 20+ players. And, it was a lot of fun every time.
Our hobby league participation has been an emotional roller coaster with the happy end of winning the championship in our group. We established ourselves right in the beginning in the upper part of the table. In the middle of the season, we had a 6-pointer against the league leader FC Peppan, which we unfortunately lost 0:1 by a goal right at the end of the game. Many thought that the championship was gone now. However, we kept on winning our following games, and on the last match day the championship window opened for us. FC Peppan lost its final game two hours before our final game. With a win, we would become champions. And, that´s what we did with a 4:1 win in a match, that could have also gone the other way.
So, with that championship, we qualified directly for the last 16 of the 4 top teams of each of the 7 groups in our hobby league. However, those playoffs have so far not yet been our sweet spot, and it was the same again this year. While we managed to reach the last 8 through a protest after the first game because of a major violation of the rules by our opponent, we had to accept a tight 2:3 loss in the quarter finals.
As a conclusion, what we take from the past summer season is the fun in trainings and the amazing team spirit in our competitive games. And, we are enjoying to be reigning champions for at least one year until the end of next summer season.

FCGH Kids – Successful continuation of activities with tournaments and upcoming winter league

The year has brought some changes.
Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to Markus from the initial team, who moved back to Germany with his family.
Andreas and his family left for Silicon Valley for two years during the summer holidays.
However, the team has made every effort to ensure that things continue well for the kids and that the work of the past year is continued.
The 20 children of the Kids Team are now coached by Felix, Markku, Pasi, Wolfgang, Michael and Manuel.
In this way, the finesse and playing strength of the 7s team is passed on to our young kickers.
In summer and autumn, the children played their first tournaments and had a lot of fun.
Therefore, we will participate in the winter league over the winter to gain playing practice and motivation in addition to training.
This will be a good change from indoor training in one of our classic sports halls.
We will do our best to keep the kids enjoying playing football and hope that we can convince a few more kids to join our team.

FC Germania Helsinki on the way into the fourth division

FC Germania showed that they came well prepared and ready out of the sumer break by securing their first win against HJK/Yellow. However, there was little time for celebration as the game against table leader HePu was due only five days afterwards and our team wanted to make it better than right before the summer break.

The game had everything a good showdown between first and second place should include; dedicated players, great chances on both sides and lots of emotions. Not undeserved and after some good chances, FC Germania Helsinki, took the lead early and with a 1:0 in the back, a slight advantage was visible. The ball, however, didn’t want to get into the net again. It took until the 70th minute in which FC Germania scored the second goal in a counter attack, as the opponent tried to increase the pressure. Also, the opponent did not give up and even game back by scoring one late goal. However, this time it was not enough and Germania took the win as well as securing the first place in the table.

Fueled by the important win, the team increased their lead in the table with a 4:0 win against Etu-Töölön Urheilot. From the first minute, the squad took control of the match with some early chances and two early goals. However, the opponent certainly didn’t lack confidence and effort, despite having limited substitutes available as they had some great chances. A good defensive effort and two late goals sealed a clear win.

A close game against Tavastia and a clear win against FC POHU/Simpsons sealed a recording breaking august. 15 points out of five games with an impressive 12 goals scored. However, what has been at least equally important was the strong collective defensive efforts leading to only one goal perceived in the whole month.

At the end of August FC Germania is leading the league with 9 points difference between them and second placed HePu. There are only four games left in the regular season and the team finishing first is directly booking a spot in the fourth division Nelonen next year. Even though anything can happen in football, our team has it in their own hands and is only milimeters away from achieving the promotion.

FC Germania Helsinki 2015 finishing regular season at top spot

With an impressive winning series after the summer break, the ambitious hobby team secured the group victory in Miehet Harraste Vitonen Etelä 1 on the last matchday. The 4-1 win against LeJa/KKI on the popular, newly prepared Brahenkenttä in Kallio with goals from Pasi Lammassaari, Markku Keskinen, Giorgio Mendolia and Gerhard Fink was at no time really threatened.

The deserved group victory (most goals and fewest goals conceded) – already the second in the team’s history – was celebrated extensively in the legendary bar “Roskapankki” after the match. Ville Rintala (11 goals), Stefan Müller (6) and Markku Keskinen (5) occupy the podium places in the internal scorers’ list.

The amateur team has thus also reached the play-offs of the 16 best of 78 teams. The first play-off game is scheduled for mid-September.

Academy with solid performances but no points

Only three games in August for our academy team and unfortunately three losses as well. However, losing 0 – 2 against table leader FC Inter Vuosaari and 0 – 3 against third placed FC Kontu/Kupa show, that FC Germania/Akademie has stabilized its performance compared to the beginning of the season. Also, our team is able to create in every game good plays and some chances, even though some more efficiency is needed in front of the goal to turn those efforts into actual points. Still, with five games still coming also against opponents more from the lower end of the table, our academy has still all possibilities to give the last spot to another team.
